Application process

To apply for an opportunity at the City of Kalamunda, please ensure you read all associated documentation regarding the role you wish to apply for.

  • Prepare your application - Help the panel by ensuring all your documentation is clear and easy to understand

  • Submitting your application - all applications received do get an acknowledgement once received.
  • Preparing for the interview - short listed candidates will be interviewed by the recruitment panel. This may take up to two (2) weeks after the closing date. Times will be organised by a City of Kalamunda officer and you will receive an email confirming the date, time and location of the interview. 
    Please arrive at least 15 minutes before your nominated time to ensure you have adequate time to review and prepare for any interview questions. 
  • Interview - the recruitment panel consists of at least two (2) members. Interviews follow a set format to ensure equity and fairness to each applicant and will be evaluated in the manner. During the interview panel members may take turns asking questions and taking notes of responses to questions.

What we look for in new employees

We are a small, dedicated team of about 300 people.  If you want to work for the City of Kalamunda, there are a few things we look for:

  • A “Can-Do” attitude – residents and ratepayers sometimes have frustrating experiences when dealing with local government.  If you work at Kalamunda, we ask you to think outside the box and help our customers to navigate local government requirements, regulations and policies with a minimum of fuss.  If you work in compliance, you will consider how to educate, inform and assist your customer and use fines and regulation as a last resort.
  • A Professional approach – it doesn’t matter if you work in our waste transfer station, our libraries or administration, you will take a professional approach to your work.  This includes speaking respectfully, being reliable and taking in pride in a job well done.
  • A Quality job – while mistakes happen, we try to get things right the first time by communicating clearly, planning ahead, acting decisively and seeking to continuously improve.

    • Our CEO, Rhonda Hardy, was recently recognised by the LG Professionals Association for a Meritorious Award which recognises outstanding achievements and contributions within local government.  The LGMA meritorious award is awarded to a person(s) who has made an outstanding contribution and commitment to Local Government and the Local Government Managers Association.  She was also a finalist in the Telstra Business Women of the Year Awards.
    • The City of Kalamunda is making waves with its Hartfield Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) Project, taking out the National level for Excellence in Water Project at the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA) 2019 Awards for Excellence held in Hobart during September 2019 and the 2018 Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) WA Division award for Excellence at Gala Dinner at the Crown.  The project has received accolades from far and wide, with the City taking home three awards and four finalist nominations to date.
  • A focus on your career – we have a strong investment in leadership training, technical training, and on-line learning, combined with interesting in-house projects.  This will assist you to build your skills and enhance your performance.
